Distributed Systems Engineer

Builds infrastructure for data localization on a global distributed edge network.

• •The Data Localization team builds infrastructure to enforce where customer data is stored, processed, and decrypted across Cloudflare's global network.
• •This involves building fast, resilient distributed systems with provable geographic boundaries at scale.
• •Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and operate production distributed systems at scale.
• •Work across the full stack, from low-level policy enforcement and cryptographic key routing to customer-facing APIs and dashboards.
• •Own the design, implementation, rollout, and production operation of systems.
• •Reason about complex failure modes with real consequences for customers.
• •Requirements 3+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating production distributed systems at scale.
• •Strong proficiency in Go or Rust, with willingness to work in others.
• •Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, replication, sharding, failure modes, observability).
• •Practical experience with API design, relational databases, and asynchronous messaging systems.
