Senior Applied Research Engineer

Applied research role to enable continuous learning in production for AI agents.

• •The OpenPipe team is building tools to help AI agents learn from experience, a critical step towards autonomous, self-improving agents.
• •This role involves tackling major bottlenecks in AI agent development, focusing on making continuous learning in production a reality.
• •Key Responsibilities Generate and investigate research ideas to solve obstacles in continuous learning for AI agents.
• •Validate research directions across real customer tasks using substantial compute resources.
• •Work across the stack, from CUDA kernels to LLM tracing dashboards.
• •Contribute to the team's roadmap and priorities with a high degree of autonomy.
• •Ship code and contribute to building the product as it evolves.
• •Requirements Trained LLMs to SOTA on specific tasks and have opinions on sequence-level vs. token-level importance ratios.
• •Strong programming skills in Python and hands-on experience with modern ML frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
• •Strong understanding of LLM post-training techniques (SFT, RL, distillation).
